Hyperthermia is a well-documented alternative and complementary cancer treatment. There were fewer recurrences (18% vs. 53%) and better 5-year survival (52% vs. 17%) for cervical cancer patients who receive hyperthermia less than two hours following radiotherapy in patients not doing chemotherapy. Toxicity levels were not significantly different for women having hyperthermia more than two hours after radiotherapy. The majority of DNA repair occurs within 2 hours, which might explain the difference in the timing intervals.

HeLa cells are a type of cell in a mortal cell line used in research. They were derived from cervical cells taken from a patient, who died of her disease in 1951. Mitochondria are responsible for biochemical processes inside cells. One way apoptosis (cell death) happens is through a biological process carried out by mitochondria in this case after being exposed to GA-Mf and GA-S.

[Article in Japanese] Abstract says this study compared the effects on uterine cervix of radiation with and without PSK. PSK is derived from Coriolus versicolor from a particular kind of mushroom used in Chinese and Japanese medicine to treat cancer with good results. In this study PSK was found to have a beneficial effect on giant cells (over 4 C) caused by endomitosis (a doubling of chromosomes) and in cases that are resistant to radiotherapy. Other studies show other anti-cancer effects.

Enhancing effect of irradiation on carcinoma of the uterine cervix by administering the protein-bound polysaccharide kureha (PSK) - - quantitative nuclear analysis following irradiation.
Pronounced longer-term survival for patients administered PS-K for uterine cancer. Five year survival for stage IIIb was 65% vs. 49% for the control group. PS-K showed an early effect for 37% of patients.
